  • There will be Google Classroom reminders, if applicable.
  • Notices and general reminders.

You may have your presentation all completed in digi format, but...have you actually practised it as a group to ensure that the presentation runs smoothly and looks and sounds professional?

Please ensure the information you are delivering in

Week Six - 28 August 2017

Hi Boys - Your Ecology Presentations are happening this week - Thursday 31 August 2017.

Please make sure your group or you are prepared.

Science - Ecology Project

Find 2 other boys to work with collaboratively to create and teach the class about an environmental issue.  Everyone needs to contribute to the presentation and do their share of work.  Maybe someone could be nominated leader to ensure you stay on track.

Do some research together and think about a topic that is important and that we all need to be aware of individually, as a community and globally!

Your presentation can be on a powerpoint, slides or any other innovative/creative way you decide to present it.

You have 3 minutes, but is you feel you need more time please speak with me.

Here are some ideas of environmental issues...they are pretty big topics...so you will need to think how to get the key learning across to your class mates!

Endangered Species
Saving the Rainforests
Wildlife Conservation
Pollution (Air and Water)
Global Climate Change
Energy Conversation
Waste Management (recycling, landfills, toxi waste)
Habitat Destruction

Welcome back to Term 2

The year is now well and truly underway. New boys have settled into Hereworth life and the routines of being in the senior school have now been learnt and are being put into practice.

Week 4
Hi Boys - Have you thought about and finalised what you are doing for your self led investigation?  You need to supply this information to me in Science before the end of Week 5.  You need to work in pairs to ensure that you both contribute to your investigation working together as a team.

Remember - don't make it too complicated.  The simpler the better.

The equipment that you need to use is the Science equipment in the Science Lab.

Self Led Investigation Details:

Your investigation needs to follow the whole scienitific method.  I need to know the following information:

1.  What is the investigation and what are you trying to find out?

2.  What Science Equipment do you require.
3.  Make your hypotheses.
4.  Trial, test, make observations, record your data, what are the results of your experiment?
5.  Conclusion - what did you discover?  Why?

This is an assessed piece of work boys.  I will provide you with the success criteria in Science.

Have fun and enjoy being a Scientist and discovering the World around you!!

In your Science Glossary - find the explanation for the term "RESPIRE".

Week 3

Year 7 Science: Self Led Science Investigation - Meg Small (15 May 2017)

In Week 7 you will be conducting your own "self led Science Investigtion" and working through the whole Scientific Process with a buddy as a team of two.

You need to learn to become independent "thinkers" and "work" as Scientists yourself to discover the "world around you" and how Science effects us in everyday life.

Begin to think about a science investigation that you would like to conduct with a buddy for Week 7, 8 and 9.

Think about all the different types of approaches and equipment we have used in Term One and Term Two. What would you like to investigate? Get creative!

Think critically about your predictions and what your hypotheses might be?

Come to me by Friday 3pm, 2 June 2017 and tell me what your self led Science Investigation is going to be on so that I can record it for your next internal assessment.

Can't wait to find out what your going to investigate boys!!

Year 7 Science Project

On an A3 sized piece of card - please research and present with appropriate information and pictures a Science Research Project upon either of the following topics:

1. A significant/historical "Science Investigation" - tell me how a science investigation and the person/s who discovered something new through trial and error, grit and determination has assisted us with our everyday lives on Planet Earth.

2. Or, alternatively you undertake your Science research project on a famous Scientist.  Tell me what they discovered and how this person has positively impacted on the way we conduct/go about our lives today.

Here are two examples below:

Science Investigation - the discovery of penicillin.
Famous Scientist - Tesler, Franklin, Bell, Rutherford

This project aligns with our Science Investigation work that we are undertaking in Term One and Term Two.
You have the next two school weeks and three weeks over the school holidays to complete it, plus week one of Term 2!

Your research project needs to be completed and handed to me in "Science lessons" by the end of Week `2 - Term 2.
This gives you 6 weeks to undertake your project and learning!

Please present your information graphically with an eye-catching title, subtitles, different styles of fonts, labelled picture that explain what they did or undertook.  Maybe it might have a timeline of a sequence of events.  Good things take time, they don't happen over night!

This is a reseach project that is about Science, but it also incorporates ICT skills, research skills, thinking and showing a commitment to achieve and push yourself to explain, explore, elaborate and be engaged with your learning.

The Senior Science Team are going to assess these for the whole Year 7 group.
I will go through the Success Criteria of what is expected from the Year 7 group for this project this week in Science.

Best wishes with your project.
